WASHINGTON: The United States President Donald Trump has dismissed reports claiming that the United States plans to provide Iran with $300 million, describing the allegations as “fake news” and accusing political opponents of spreading misinformation.
In this regard, Truth Social, President Trump said reports suggesting that the United States would give Iran $300 million were completely false. He claimed that the story had been circulated by Democrats and had no basis in reality.
“The reports about giving Iran $300 million are fake news,” Trump said, adding that such claims were intended to mislead the public and create confusion regarding U.S. policy toward Iran.
The US president also stated that Iran has agreed that it will never possess nuclear weapons. He reasserted Washington’s long-standing position that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear capabilities remains a key objective in discussions related to the country’s nuclear program.
Trump’s statements came amid growing discussion over possible economic support for Iran under certain conditions. Earlier, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance had indicated that Iran could potentially benefit from a reconstruction fund worth $300 billion.
However, he clarified that the proposed funding would not come from the United States but from allied Gulf countries and would be subject to specific conditions.
Iran would only be able to access the reconstruction assistance if it fulfilled its commitments and demonstrated compliance with agreed responsibilities. He emphasized that any potential economic support would depend on Iran’s willingness to honor its obligations under future agreements.
The vice president further clarified that the release of approximately $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets was not included in the current draft agreement under discussion.
The differing interpretations of the proposed reconstruction assistance have generated public debate, with some reports suggesting direct U.S. financial support for Iran.
