ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has formally requested US President Donald Trump to extend the deadline by two weeks to allow diplomatic efforts for a peaceful resolution of the ongoing war in the Middle East.
The White House spokesperson confirmed that President Trump is aware of the Prime Minister’s appeal and that a response will be issued soon.
Meanwhile, senior Iranian officials have stated that Tehran is reviewing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s request and that the matter is currently under consideration.
In a message posted on social media, the Prime Minister said that diplomatic efforts are progressing rapidly and that concrete results are likely to emerge in the near future. He emphasized that this initiative is of utmost importance for regional peace and stability.
In his appeal, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also requested Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks as a goodwill gesture, in order to give diplomacy a chance and reduce tensions in the region.
