15 killed, 8 injured as truck overturns on Swat Motorway

SWAT: At least 15 people were killed and 8 others were wounded when a truck in which they were travelling overturned on the Swat Motorway.

The tragic traffic accident took place near Tunnel No. 3 of Swat Motorway on Thursday.
The victims included men, women, and children.

As soon as the accident was reported, Rescue 1122 Malakand’s medical response team reached the scene with ambulances. Motorway police and other relevant agencies also joined the rescue efforts.

During the joint operation, Motorway police and officials transported some of the injured and deceased to DHQ Hospital Batkhela, while Rescue 1122 teams shifted the remaining victims to the hospital promptly.

Doctors at the hospital confirmed 15 fatalities and provided medical aid to eight injured people. Four of the injured were later referred to Swat in critical condition.

Initial reports indicated that all the victims belonged to Gabral area of Bahrain tehsil in Swat district. They were members of a nomadic family that moves seasonally between different regions.

According to the Rescue 1122 Malakand spokesperson, the accident was extremely severe, but the timely and professional response of Rescue 1122 helped prevent further loss of life.

The Swat Motorway, also known as the M-16, is a 160-kilometre-long four-lane motorway constructed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in June 2019 that connects the existing M-1 motorway at Nowshera to Chakdara. The second phase of the Swat Motorway will extend the project to FatehPur Swat.
