ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Goods Transport Alliance has announced a 60% increase in freight fares across the country, citing rising fuel costs.
Alliance President Malik Shahzad Awan said transporters have serious concerns over recent hikes in petroleum prices. He said the increase in fares had become unavoidable.
In a video statement, Awan warned that higher fuel prices would further drive inflation. He said petrol and diesel prices have risen sharply over the past three months, putting pressure on the economy and employment.
He criticized government policies, saying the decisions are leading to job losses for thousands of workers.
Awan urged the federal government to review its policies immediately. He warned that failure to act could disrupt the country’s transport system.
