LAHORE: The protesting transporters have ended a wheel-jam strike against heavy fines across Punjab after successful talks with Punjab government.
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said that the Punjab government and transporters reached a breakthrough after two days of negotiations to end the ongoing strike, Punjab Transport Minister said.
According to the minister, no formal consultations had taken place before the introduction of the Traffic Ordinance 2025 — a key grievance raised by transporters. He announced that the ordinance was being withdrawn for the time being.
The minister further said a committee has been constituted to address the transporters’ concerns and propose long-term solutions. He added that all fines imposed under the disputed ordinance were being suspended with immediate effect.
People faced delays, missed appointments, and increased travel costs as alternative options become limited.
The strike also disrupts the supply chain, slowing the delivery of essential goods to markets.
This leads to shortages, rising prices, and pressure on traders. Businesses relying on transport services suffer losses, while daily-wage workers are hit the hardest.
Overall, such strikes highlight the need for better communication between authorities and transport unions to resolve issues without causing public inconvenience.
