Pakistan Railways suspends train services from Balochitan

QUETTA: Pakistan Railways suspended all train services from Quetta and other Balochistan cities today due to floods.

Officials cancelled the Jaffar Express to Peshawar, the Bolan Mail to Karachi, and all trains on Quetta–Peshawar and Quetta–Karachi routes. They also cancelled the Jaffar Express from Peshawar to Quetta.

Authorities said they will resume services from Quetta on Sunday and refund affected passengers.

Heavy floods in the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers forced a flood emergency in Chiniot. Earlier, Pakistan Railways halted several services nationwide after monsoon rains damaged infrastructure and waterlogged tracks. Emergency teams are clearing lines to restore operations.

The Met Office warned of a fresh monsoon spell. Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, and Tharparkar may face heavy rains and urban flooding from August 30 to September 2. Interior Sindh districts including Hyderabad, Dadu, Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Kashmore will also see heavy downpours from August 30 to September 1.

In Balochistan, Gwadar, Kech, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Lasbela, and Kalat may face flooding from Friday to September 1.
