Traditional parties have failed Balochistan, says Sadiq Khan Achakzai

QUETTA: Sadiq Khan Achakzai, the central chairman of the Mazloum Awami Tehreek Pakistan, has declared that the people of Balochistan are prepared for a significant political shift, asserting that traditional parties have delivered nothing but disappointment.

He made these statements during a grand ceremony where twelve independent councilors, along with leaders and workers from various political parties, formally joined his movement.

Addressing the gathering at the club, Achakzai launched a sharp critique of the established political leadership. He pointed to the deteriorating condition of Quetta, the provincial capital, which he described as a “map of ruins.” He highlighted the severe and unaddressed issues plaguing the city, including a lack of peace, and critical shortages of gas, electricity, and employment opportunities.

“The people of Quetta have given me a voice for change,” Achakzai stated, expressing strong confidence about the upcoming local body elections. “God willing, we will give a surprise in the local body elections,” he added, signaling his party’s ambitious electoral goals.

Central President of the party, Abbas Khan Durrani, congratulated the new members and framed the party’s growing influence as a direct response to public disillusionment. He stated that the stark “contradiction between the leadership’s words and actions has disappointed the people.” In this climate of discontent, Durrani positioned the Mazloum Awami Tehreek as a “light and a ray of hope for the people of Pakistan.” The event underscores a potential reconfiguration of the political landscape in Balochistan, driven by grassroots discontent and new alliances.

Meanwhile in a landmark move for public health, the Balochistan Assembly unanimously passed a resolution on Friday, demanding a strict province-wide ban on industrially produced trans fats and partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs) in food items.

The resolution, presented during a session chaired by Speaker Captain (Retd) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, was jointly tabled by Deputy Speaker Ghazala Golla and members of the Women Parliamentary Caucus, including Shahida Rauf, Farah Azeem Shah, Salma Bibi, and Umm Kulsoom.
