Trade with Afghanistan linked to action against terror safe havens: Jam Kamal

Jam Kamal: Pakistan to facilitate Turkish investment

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal has issued a stark warning to Afghanistan, stating that Pakistan cannot engage in trade discussions or move forward on any other bilateral issue until the safe havens of terrorists on Afghan soil are eliminated.

Speaking on Monday, the Commerce Minister emphasized that it has been made unequivocally clear to Kabul at every level that Pakistan prioritizes its sovereignty and security above all else.

“We welcome talks and promoting trade, but if the safe havens of terrorists in Afghanistan are not eliminated, Pakistan cannot move forward with talks on any other issue,” Jam Kamal asserted.

The minister’s remarks underscore Pakistan’s growing frustration over cross-border terrorism. He stressed that dialogue and economic engagement are contingent upon concrete action by the Afghan interim government.

“Afghanistan will have to deal with the terrorists using its soil. No compromise can be made on Pakistan’s security,” he stated firmly.

The statement reflects Pakistan’s consistent position that lasting peace and regional economic integration are impossible without addressing terrorism. The Commerce Minister reiterated that while Pakistan remains open to fostering trade ties, national security is a red line that cannot be crossed.
