ISLAMABAD: Pakistan temporarily opens Torkham Border for Afghan refugee repatriation

The Government of Pakistan has temporarily opened the Torkham border to facilitate the safe, phased repatriation of illegally staying Afghan refugees as part of state policy, officials announced.

According to a government statement, the repatriation process began on March 26, 2026. All relevant agencies, including the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Customs, and National Logistics Corporation, have been instructed to ensure full coordination and preparedness.

Keeping the security situation in view, strict security arrangements have been implemented in Torkham, Landi Kotal, and surrounding areas to safeguard the repatriation process from all kinds of security threats, the statement added.

Officials said the orderly transfer of refugees will be ensured only through registered locations, particularly Hamza Baba Camp. Movement will remain controlled during the initial phase to avoid any mismanagement.

The government emphasized that this move reflects its commitment to national security, border discipline, and effective enforcement of immigration laws, while also ensuring the dignified return of Afghan refugees. Security forces and civil institutions are playing a role with complete solidarity in the effort.
