Tonight Lunar Eclipse to grace Pak’s Night sky on Sept 7

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced that a total lunar eclipse will be visible across the country on the night of September 7, providing astronomy enthusiasts, students, and the general public with an opportunity to witness one of nature’s most fascinating celestial spectacles.

In this regard, the astronomical event will begin at approximately 8:30 pm and progress gradually until the early hours of the following morning.

The eclipse will reach its peak at around 1:55 am, when the Earth’s shadow will completely envelop the moon, giving it a striking reddish hue often referred to as the “blood moon.”

In addition, the commission elaborated on the science behind the event, explaining that a lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves directly between the sun and the moon, casting its shadow across the lunar surface.

In this sense, which requires protective viewing equipment, a lunar eclipse can be safely observed with the naked eye. However, the use of binoculars and telescopes can greatly enhance the viewing experience, revealing the subtle variations in the moon’s surface during the different stages of the eclipse.

SUPARCO has encouraged citizens, particularly students and members of astronomy clubs, to actively participate in observation activities.
