Three wanted terrorists killed in joint operation in Bannu

BANNU: Three wanted terrorists were killed during a late-night intelligence-based joint operation conducted by regional police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in the outskirts of Bannu city, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The operation was launched at midnight based on credible intelligence inputs. The three militants, affiliated with the outlawed Zarar group, were gunned down following a brief but intense encounter.

The security personnel recovered a crucial cache of weapons from the scene, including three Kalashnikov rifles, multiple magazines, pistols, and several improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The successful operation has been described as a major step toward restoring peace and stability in the region.

The region has been experiencing a steady rise in terrorism incidents, particularly after the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) unilaterally ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

Since then, the KPK has become a hotspot for militant activity, with attacks reported in Peshawar, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bajaur, and Bannu. In addition, the Law enforcement agencies continue to intensify counterterrorism operations across the province in an effort to curb the growing threat.
