QUETTA: At least three individuals, including two women, sustained burn injuries in two separate gas explosions that rocked different areas of Quetta on Saturday, according to local police authorities.
The first explosion occurred in the Yousaf Homes locality on Sarki Road. Police reported that a gas leak accumulated inside a residential house, leading to a blast that caused panic in the neighborhood. A woman inside the home suffered burn injuries in the incident. Emergency services rushed to the scene to provide aid and secure the area.
Shortly after, a second explosion was reported from Qambrani Road. This blast, also triggered by a suspected gas leak, injured a husband and wife within their home. Both victims sustained burn wounds and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Police officials confirmed that all three injured persons from both incidents were shifted to local hospitals and are currently receiving necessary care. Their conditions, while serious, are reported to be stable. Investigative teams have cordoned off the affected sites as inquiries are launched to ascertain the precise causes behind the gas leaks. Authorities have also stated they will assess overall safety conditions and gas infrastructure in the localities to prevent such dangerous occurrences in the future.
The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns among residents regarding gas safety protocols, especially during the winter months when gas usage typically increases.
Meanwhile the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a significant weather advisory, predicting widespread rain, windstorms, and snowfall across Balochistan from December 29 to January 1, marking a sharp turn in winter conditions for the province.
According to the PMD, a fresh series of westerly winds will enter the country on December 29, affecting multiple regions. In Balochistan, the plains are expected to receive rainfall from Saturday, while substantial snowfall is forecast for the province’s northern and central hilly areas, including Quetta, Ziarat, and Chaman.
