Thousands march in D.C. to protest Trump’s troop deployment

Washington, DC, residents protest against Trump's troop deployment to the city

The “We Are All D.C.” march is one of the first major organized protests since President Donald Trump deployed federal troops to the nation’s capital.

Thousands of people marched through the streets of Washington, D.C., this weekend to protest President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy U.S. troops to the city.

The protest, called the “We Are All D.C.” march, included immigrant groups and Palestinian supporters. Protesters held signs and chanted slogans, demanding the government reverse its decision to send soldiers to patrol the city. They called the move a “dictatorial” tactic and expressed fear that it could be used in other parts of the country later.

The deployment includes over 2,000 troops, some sent from states with Republican-led governments. While the original reason for sending the military was a high crime rate, official data from the Department of Justice shows that violent crime in Washington in 2024 is actually at a 30-year low.

The U.S. military has extended the duty of the National Guard in the city until November 30th, though it is unclear how long the additional troops will remain.
