Operation Shaban Effectively Targets Militant Strongholds Across Balochistan: The Diplomat

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s ongoing Operation Shaban is targeting militant hideouts across Balochistan in an effort to dismantle insurgent networks and restore security in the province, according to an analysis published by international affairs magazine The Diplomat.

The publication said Pakistan launched the operation after militants attacked a police post near Mangi Dam, killing several security personnel. The offensive involves the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan and provincial police.

According to The Diplomat, security forces have carried out coordinated ground and air operations against militants identified by Pakistan as Fitna al Khawarij and Fitna al Hindustan. The report said the campaign has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of militants.

The analysis said militants linked to Fitna al Khawarij, described as allies of the Afghan Taliban, and Fitna al Hindustan have targeted security forces and development projects across Balochistan.

The Diplomat described Operation Shaban as a long-term military campaign aimed at dismantling militant infrastructure and re-establishing the state’s writ in the province.

The report said the operation is focused on Fitna al Hindustan and affiliated separatist groups in southern Balochistan, while targeting Fitna al Khawarij in the province’s northern districts.

According to the publication, the success of the operation could improve the security situation in Balochistan and contribute to Pakistan’s broader internal stability. It added that improved security could also create conditions for meaningful dialogue and long-term regional peace.

Security analysts quoted in the report said the launch of Operation Shaban reflected the growing threat posed by militant groups. They said military action was necessary to address the security situation but stressed that strengthening local institutions and accelerating economic development would also be essential for lasting stability.
