ISLAMABAD: An international publication has emphasized that lasting success against terrorism in Pakistan requires unwavering national unity, warning that political divisions are undermining counterterrorism efforts.
According to The Diplomat, victory against terrorism depends on a united national strategy that rises above political differences.
The magazine identified the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government’s divergence from federal policy as a major challenge in combating militancy.
It noted that Pakistan’s armed forces carried out successful operations such as Zarb-e-Azb and Radd-ul-Fasaad, but previous government negotiations with extremist elements emboldened militant groups.
The report stated that Pakistan’s counterterrorism campaign is being weakened by political discord, with KP authorities continuing to favor negotiations and limited actions rather than aligning with the federal approach.
It further highlighted that the Afghan government has integrated hundreds of extremist supporters into its administration, while Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has criticized Kabul’s measures against these groups as insincere.
The Diplomat also pointed to disagreements between the federal and KP governments over the repatriation of undocumented Afghan migrants, stressing that the federal government considers these migrants potential facilitators of terrorism.
