PANJGUR: A critical bridge linking to the strategically vital Srikuran-Washap CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) road was targeted in a terrorist attack on Wednesday, causing partial damage and prompting a swift security response. The assault has been claimed by the militant group ‘Fitna-ul-Hindustan,‘ raising immediate concerns about the security of infrastructure associated with the multi-billion-dollar CPEC project.
According to officials, explosives were used to target the bridge structure. The blast resulted in significant, though not total, damage to a section of the bridge. Initial reports confirm the bridge remains partially standing but is severely compromised and unsafe for traffic. There have been no immediate reports of casualties from the attack itself.
Security forces cordoned off the area immediately after the incident. A large contingent of paramilitary and police personnel has reached the scene, securing the perimeter and launching a clearance operation to rule out any secondary threats or planted explosives. An investigation into the precise nature of the attack and the perpetrators’ movements is now underway.
While traffic has been halted on this section, authorities are assessing the damage to determine repair timelines. The attack is expected to cause temporary logistical disruptions for cargo and travel along this CPEC spur.
