CHAMAN: Tensions erupted along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border following reports of Pakistani fighter jets conducting airstrikes near the Spin Boldak area, adjacent to the Chaman border crossing.
The strikes targeted what were described as key positions of Afghan forces, resulting in vital casualties among Taliban personnel.
Furthermore, the witnesses in the border region reported multiple explosions early in the morning, followed by the presence of drones circling over the affected area.
In this regard, the security sources in Chaman confirmed that the Pakistan Armed Forces have been placed on high alert along the western frontier.
The Chaman border crossing one of the busiest trade and transit routes between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been closed since early morning, disrupting cross-border movement of goods and people.
The operation continued into the early hours of Saturday. The action was described as “effective and assertive,” involving heavy weaponry and strategic maneuvers aimed at neutralizing cross-border threats.
Furthermore, security forces successfully gained control of 19 Afghan border checkpoints, which were allegedly being used for launching attacks into Pakistani territory.
The military advance is said to have been conducted in response to recent incidents of cross-border firing and infiltration attempts, which have strained relations between the two neighboring countries.
The Angoor Adda sector, located in South Waziristan, has long been considered a sensitive and volatile area due to its proximity to militant networks operating across the border.
The situation remains volatile as drone surveillance and military mobilization continue across the border belt.
