MUMBAI: The West Indies cricket team delivered one of the most commanding performances in T20 World Cup history, overwhelming the Zimbabwe national cricket team by a massive 107-run margin.
The result has not only tightened the group standings but also significantly complicated the path to the semi-finals for India.
West Indies unleashed an extraordinary assault, piling up 254 runs in their allotted 20 overs, the second-highest total ever recorded in the tournament’s history. The Caribbean batters dominated from the outset, striking boundaries at will and dismantling Zimbabwe’s bowling attack with calculated aggression.
The crowd witnessed a relentless barrage of fours and sixes, as Zimbabwe’s bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught under mounting pressure.
In this regard, Zimbabwe stumbled despite moments of resistance. The innings never truly gathered momentum, and wickets fell at regular intervals. Eventually, the side was bowled out for 147, sealing a comprehensive victory for West Indies and sending a strong message to the rest of the competition.
West Indies have surged to the top of Group 1 with two points and an impressive net run rate of 5.350. Meanwhile, South Africa national cricket team hold second position after defeating India national cricket team, maintaining two points and a healthy net run rate of 3.800.
India, however, find themselves in third place without a point and burdened by a negative net run rate of -3.800.
The equation ahead is now clear yet daunting for India. Victories alone may not suffice.
In a scenario where teams finish level on points, net run rate could prove decisive, and at present, that margin tells a worrying story.
