LAHORE: The major development regarding the highly anticipated Pakistan–India match in the ICC T20 World Cup is expected within the next few hours, as behind-the-scenes diplomatic activity intensifies in Pakistan.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Aminul Islam has arrived in Pakistan to participate in an emergency meeting convened by the International Cricket Council (ICC). At the same time, an ICC conciliation delegation is expected to reach Pakistan later today, signaling the seriousness of the ongoing discussions.
There are several sources indicate that key talks between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the ICC delegation will focus on the status and future of the Pakistan–India fixture, one of the most watched events in international cricket.
The ICC has assigned its Deputy Chairman, Imran Khwaja, to oversee and facilitate matters related specifically to this high-profile match. He is expected to attend multiple emergency meetings involving the PCB and ICC officials. The heads of the respective cricket boards are likely to join the ICC session virtually, several in-person consultations are planned on the sidelines.
The BCB chairman is also expected to meet PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi during his stay. The meeting is anticipated to include a detailed exchange of views on the current T20 World Cup situation, along with broader cricket-related concerns affecting the region.
The urgency of these engagements stems from recent developments surrounding the tournament’s arrangements. Bangladesh had earlier raised concerns related to security and had requested adjustments to its match venues.
The coming hours are expected to be decisive, and officials remain tight-lipped, sources suggest that any outcome could significantly reshape the narrative of this year’s T20 World Cup both on and off the field.
