ICC Rejects Bangladesh Request to Move T20 World Cup Matches from India

ISLAMABAD: Indian media has reported that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected Bangladesh’s request to move its T20 World Cup matches out of India.

According to reports, the request was made due to security concerns. A neutral venue was sought instead of India. The ICC did not approve the proposal. Bangladesh was directed to travel to India for its matches.

It was also reported that a refusal to tour India could result in a loss of points. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has said that no such ultimatum has been received from the ICC.

The demand for relocation was linked to the current security situation. A day earlier, BCB director Asif Akbar had stated that the team would not travel to India under any circumstances for the T20 World Cup.

The issue gained urgency after Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders released Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman. The decision followed threats allegedly issued by Hindu extremist groups in India.
