Students urge President Zardari to intervene in Balochistan scholarship scandal

QUETTA: Serious allegations have surfaced regarding the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan Package, a government initiative aimed at promoting education among Baloch youth. Students claimed that Accountant Muhammad Abdul Qudoos is accused of unlawfully cancelling scholarships that were awarded to students under the program.

According to the Legal experts, an accountant does not have the power to cancel such scholarships, calling the move an apparent case of administrative overreach and possible misconduct.

The alleged actions have triggered anger and concern among students and civil society groups, with calls for accountability growing louder. Repeated attempts by the media to obtain a statement from Muhammad Abdul Qudoos have gone unanswered.

In response, several students have announced plans to file a civil lawsuit, demanding justice and financial compensation for the losses they have incurred.

The affected students appealed to key government figures including President Asif Ali Zardari, the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Federal Education Minister, and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti to launch a formal investigation and take appropriate disciplinary action.

Adding to the controversy, it has come to light that multiple media organizations in Balochistan had previously called for transparency from the HEC regarding the scholarship program. Despite these requests, the commission has remained silent for over seven months.
