DUBAI: Following their victory in the Asia Cup, the Indian cricket team reportedly refused to receive the championship trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi, causing a delay in the final ceremony at the Dubai Cricket Stadium.
According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially informed the ACC of their decision. The ACC stood by its plan for President Naqvi to present the trophy, and as a result, the trophy was ultimately removed from the field without being formally handed over.
The ceremony host, Simon Doll, confirmed he was informed by the ACC that the trophy presentation would not take place.
This incident follows earlier criticism of the Indian team for not shaking hands with the Pakistani team after a match and for the Indian captain not taking a pre-final photograph with the Pakistani captain, actions that were seen by some as a breach of sportsmanship.
