Speaker Ayaz Sadiq condemns India’s unlawful release of water

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq strongly condemned India’s unilateral and unlawful release of water into Pakistani rivers, terming it a violation of international laws and humanitarian principles.

In this regard, the Speaker expressed deep grievances over the loss of innocent lives and widespread destruction of property caused by recent floods in various districts of Punjab. He said that India’s sudden release of extraordinary volumes of water without prior intimation not only inflicted large-scale devastation but also resulted in financial losses worth trillions.

Furthermore, Ayaz Sadiq underlined that such actions by India constitute a grave breach of international conventions that regulate transboundary rivers and water management. He added that disregarding humanitarian considerations during a time when monsoon rains had already elevated river levels aggravated the suffering of vulnerable communities along riverbanks.

He mentioned the hardships faced by the people due to the unprecedented rise in river water levels this monsoon season, the Speaker stressed that the entire nation and the Parliament stand united in extending solidarity to the affected families.

The Speaker directed the relevant authorities and district administrations to intensify relief and rescue operations in flood-hit areas, ensuring rapid assistance to those displaced or stranded.
