PESHAWAR: Four militants linked to Fitna al-Khawarij were killed, while three members of a security forces’ bomb disposal squad were killed during an intelligence-based operation in Mohmand district on Wednesday, officials said.
According to officials, security forces launched the operation in the Mamad Gat area, within the jurisdiction of Lakare Police Station in Safi tehsil, after receiving intelligence about the presence of militants.
During the operation, security forces engaged the militants in a firefight, killing four of them.
Following the operation, a bomb disposal (BD) squad was deployed to clear the area of landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) left behind by the militants.
While conducting the clearance operation, an IED detonated, killing three members of the bomb disposal team.
Mamad Gat is located along the boundary between Mohmand and Bajaur districts, a region that has witnessed repeated militant activity in recent years.
Security forces have launched a clearance operation in the area to eliminate any remaining threats, while further investigations into the incident are underway.
