Islamabad :Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the federal government has successfully completed the solarization of agricultural tube wells in Balochistan, a move expected to significantly boost the province’s agricultural output.
He emphasized that enhancing production units and promoting economic development in Balochistan remain top priorities for the federal government.
Chairing a high-level review meeting on ongoing power sector reforms, the Prime Minister directed the swift completion of the privatization of loss-incurring GENCOs (generation companies) and called for the nationwide installation of smart electric meters to be finalized promptly.
According to TV report, the meeting was attended by key officials, including Federal Ministers Sardar Owais Khan Leghari, Ahsan Iqbal Cheema, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Special Advisor to the PM Muhammad Ali, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, Power Task Force Coordinator Lt. Gen. Zafar Iqbal, PM’s Coordinator Mosharraf Zaidi, and other senior officers.
The participants were briefed on the benefits of the ongoing reforms in the power sector.
PM Shehbaz highlighted that these reforms aim to provide public relief and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to industries.
He also instructed that the second and third phases of GENCOs’ privatization be completed soon and the auction process should be broadcast live, similar to other privatization programs.
Additionally, he ordered the fast-tracking of smart meter installations nationwide and urged speedy privatization of electricity distribution companies.

The Prime Minister further directed the swift establishment of electric vehicle charging stations and the early implementation of proposed projects to upgrade the power transmission and distribution system.
