CM Sohail Afridi leaves for Adiala Jail to meet Imran Khan

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi on Thursday left for Adiala Jail to meet the party’s founding chairman Imran Khan minutes after the Peshawar High Court granted protective bail to him.

A divisional bench of the Peshawar High Court, comprising of Justice Ijaz Anwar and  Naeem Anwar, heard Sohail Afridi’s plea for protective bail and stopped authorities from arresting him in any registered case.

Talking to media persons before leaving, Sohail Afridi said that he feared that he would not be allowed to meet Imran Khan in Adiala as the Federal Ministry of Interior and the Punjab government had not responded to his letter, requesting for administrative measures for his meeting.

Sohail Afridi had submitted a plea in the high court seeking bail who wanted to visit Adiala Jail to meet party founding chairman Imran Khan.

The application was heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Naeem Anwar. During the hearing, Justice Ijaz Anwar asked the advocate general how many cases have been registered against the petitioner?.

Advocate General replied that he do not know that how many FIRs have been registered against Sohail Afridi. There may be FIRs against me too, he told the court.

Later, the court granted protective bail to the Chief Minister and barred authorities from arresting him an any registered case.

The court also sought report of cases against Sohail Afridi from the federal government.

This will be the first direct meeting of CM Afridi with Imran Khan after taking oath, administered by the KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on the directives of the Peshawar High Court.

In this regard, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has also sent an official letter to the Federal Ministry of Interior and the Punjab government, in which necessary security and administrative measures have been directed for the meeting.

The letter issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home Department has been received by the Federal Secretary of Interior and the Secretary of Interior of Punjab.

According to sources, detailed consultations will be held on provincial matters, the current political situation and the organizational affairs of the party in the expected meeting.
