“Sir, may I see you, please?”: Trump Mocks Modi Over His Meeting Request

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump again mocked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during media remarks at the White House on Thursday.

In the latest in a series of comments, Trump said on Tuesday that Modi was “not that happy” with him following the imposition of steep US tariffs.

Trump made the remarks while addressing the White House GOP Member Retreat, a day after warning that the United States could raise tariffs on India “very quickly.”

He said Prime Minister Modi had recently met him and quoted him as saying, “Sir, may I see you, please?”

Trump added that India had begun reducing its imports of Russian crude oil as a result of the tariffs.
