KARACHI: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister and PTI leader, Sohail Afridi, launched a scathing attack on the Sindh government during a rally at Niamshah Chowrangi in Karachi on Sunday. He accused the provincial administration of creating deliberate obstacles and showing disrespect towards local culture in an attempt to thwart the public gathering.
Afridi claimed that despite facing police harassment at multiple points, a large crowd demonstrated unwavering support for the incarcerated PTI founder. “The Sindh government created obstacles, the people removed all obstacles and made the rally successful,” he stated. He further alleged that the government had disrespected the Sindhi cap and Ajrak, symbols of Sindhi culture, and criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for establishing a “dictatorship” in the province and altering the constitutional structure.
Reflecting on his party’s reception in other provinces, the Chief Minister lamented, “The government in Punjab did not treat us well, the Sindh government did not treat us well in Sindh either.” He announced that the PTI’s next major public gathering would be held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as part of a nationwide street movement to “convey the message of the founder PTI.”
Afridi concluded by thanking the people of Karachi and asserted that the public was ready to march to Islamabad’s D-Chowk upon the call of their founder, vowing to resist what he termed the unjust imprisonment of the party’s leader. The rally and Afridi’s remarks underscore the deepening political rift between the PTI and the ruling coalition at the center and in Sindh.
