Silence over slain officer’s raises questions of nationalist double standards

QUETTA: The social media users started conversation and questioning the apparent double standards surrounding the abduction and killing of Pashtun and Baloch government officers such as Deputy Commissioners and Police officials in terrorism-related incidents in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.

According to details, the critics argue that when a militant is arrested, some groups are quick to play the “Baloch card” or “Pashtun card,” portraying the individual as a victim of state oppression. However, when a government officer often from the same ethnic background is kidnapped or martyred, they are reduced to being labeled simply as a “state official,” with little outcry from the same voices.

Analysts say this selective empathy deepens social divides and diverts attention from core issues. “If an officer is martyred while serving their people, does their sacrifice mean less just because they wore a uniform?” one observer asked.

The social media users are urging for a more balanced approach one that values justice and human dignity above political narratives or ethnic affiliations.

The question remains: Shouldn’t the blood of a Baloch or Pashtun government official be just as worthy of mourning and recognition as anyone else’s?
