Islamabad: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a show-cause notice to fast bowler Naseem Shah for violating the terms of his central contract.
According to reports, the notice was served to the Pakistan national team and Islamabad United pacer over a controversial tweet posted before the opening match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11.
Naseem Shah has been given one week to explain his actions. The PCB will take a final decision only after receiving his reply.
It may be recalled that the fast bowler had posted a controversial tweet when Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz arrived at the stadium along with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The tweet quickly went viral, was widely retweeted, and was later deleted.
Naseem Shah’s close sources claimed that his account was hacked for a short time. However, questions were raised as the account was reportedly recovered just 13 minutes after the tweet. Some reports suggested that the tweet was intentional and the hacking claim was made to avoid disciplinary action.
The PCB’s central contract strictly prohibits players from making political statements or any controversial remarks on media and social media platforms.
