Shoaib Malik expresses desire to play cricket again

LAHORE: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik, despite retiring from international cricket, has expressed no interest in entering the coaching field.

Instead, he wishes to continue playing in a few selected international leagues and is currently trying his hand at television commentary.

Malik is presently part of the commentary panel for the ongoing ILT20 league in the United Arab Emirates, where he has been sharing duties for nearly a month alongside legendary figures such as Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and other globally renowned cricketers. He described this experience as highly positive and enriching.

In an informal conversation, Malik stated, “I will soon turn 45, but I still feel fully fit, which is why I am keen to participate in chosen international leagues.”

He added that commentary has been a fresh yet enjoyable venture for him, offering a new perspective on the game.

Regarding the ILT20, the veteran all-rounder remarked, “I have played in numerous leagues around the world, but the standard, organization, and atmosphere of ILT20 set it apart from the rest, it’s hard to compare.”

He also praised the league’s organizers and fellow players.

Malik’s young son, Izaan Mirza Malik, has often been spotted showing interest in the sport, frequently seen with a small bat on the field.

However, according to Shoaib, Izaan is more inclined toward football than cricket and displays a stronger passion for that game.

Cricket circles believe that Malik’s vast experience and impressive fitness continue to make him an attractive option for limited-overs franchise leagues, while his presence in the commentary box is proving to be both informative and engaging for viewers.
