Shehbaz Sharif Becomes First Pakistani Prime Minister to Visit Austria in Over 30 Years

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is on a two-day official visit to Vienna at the invitation of Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker, the Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch.

The visit marks 70 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Austria.

Sharif will hold bilateral talks with Stocker to review the full range of ties between the two countries.

The prime minister will chair a meeting of the Pakistan–Austria Business Forum, organized by the Austrian Economic Chamber. He will also visit multilateral organizations in Vienna.

The Foreign Ministry said Pakistan and Austria enjoy cordial relations, based on shared support for dialogue, cooperation, and a rules-based international order under the UN Charter and international law.

This is the first visit by a Pakistani prime minister to Austria in over three decades. The last visit took place in 1992, when then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif traveled to Vienna.
