ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi became furious with the players following Pakistan’s defeat at the hands of India in the T20 World Cup.
On Sunday, in the ICC T20 World Cup match against India, Pakistan suffered a 61-run loss.
India, batting first, scored 175 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. In reply to India’s 176-run target, the Pakistani team was bowled out for 114 runs in 18 overs.
Following the one-sided defeat to India, fans and former cricketers have heavily criticized the national team.
Former captain Shahid Afridi also expressed his anger over Pakistan’s comprehensive loss to India.
In an interview with a private TV channel, Shahid Afridi said that Pakistan committed many mistakes in the match against India, and India fully deserved the victory.
The decisions made by captain Salman Ali Agha were completely incomprehensible.
Our trump card, Usman Tariq, was kept hidden until the 10th over—why was he not used earlier?
He also criticized Shaheen Afridi, stating that Shaheen did not bowl well either. After leaking runs in the first over, he was still given the final over, even though Faheem Ashraf was available.
Shahid Afridi remarked that if the decision were in his hands, he would drop Shaheen, Shadab Khan, and Babar from the team and give opportunities to new, young players.
The former captain added that these senior players have been playing for a long time.
We expect them to perform well against big teams, but they fail to deliver when it matters.
Therefore, new boys should be given a chance in the next match against Namibia.
