QْUETTA : In an interview, renowned Baloch political and social figure Mir Shafiq-ur-Rehman Mengal said that those who hide behind women to carry out attacks have forgotten Balochistan’s social values.
According to him, nothing like today’s events can be found in the province’s centuries-old history.
The people orchestrating this turmoil, he argued, have no genuine connection to Balochistan, its traditions, or the true sentiments of its residents; they are merely hired hands voicing someone else’s agenda.
Mengal emphasized that the Baloch are a tribal people who do not wish to shed blood or sow discord. They stand with their state and shoulder-to-shoulder with their armed forces.
He stressed that women in Baloch society are held in the highest esteem, and their honor is a core social value worth sacrificing one’s life for.
Neither the men nor the women of Balochistan want customs to emerge in which women take to streets and squares, stirring rebellion, bloodshed, and hatred among the masses.
Such practices are alien to local culture and are clearly being imposed from outside.

Mengal added that opportunists like Akhtar Mengal—whom he labeled self-serving and unprincipled—are willing to go to any length to advance their personal ambitions.
