Security forces launch major operation in Hangu; 15 terrorists killed

HANGU: Security forces launched a counter-terrorism operation in the restive regions of Hangu, Koi, Lower Kurram, and other border areas, resulting in the killing of at least 15 terrorists.

In this regard, the ongoing 10-day operation, targeting terrosits hideouts in mountainous and forested regions.  As per the military sources, gunship helicopters carried out precise shelling of suspected militant sanctuaries in the rugged terrain, inflicting heavy losses on terrorist elements.

The operation, covered multiple districts including Hangu, Karak, Orakzai, and Kurram, was initiated following credible intelligence regarding the presence and movement of militant groups operating along the porous border regions. 

So far, the Lower Kurram and Koi areas, ground troops supported by aerial surveillance engaged suspected hideouts, with numerous militants reportedly injured during the engagements.

As far as the Karak is concerned, a separate but coordinated clearance operation was conducted, following which the area has been declared free of terrorist presence.

The operation remains active, with additional reserves moved into high-risk areas. The government and military leadership have reasserted their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, focsuing on that no militant network will be allowed to regroup or threaten national security.
