Security forces foil terrorist escape attempt near Afghan border, Two killed

BAJAUR: The security forces successfully thwarted an attempt by terrorists to escape across the border into Afghanistan, eliminating two terrorists and injuring two others during a brief but intense exchange of fire in the Bajaur district.

The operation which was launched on the basis of precise intelligence regarding the movement of a small group of terrorists near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. 

In this sense, the security personnel intercepted four to five militants in the rugged terrain, triggering a gun battle that lasted between 10 and 15 minutes. So far, two terrorists were killed on the spot and two others sustained injuries. The remaining militants reportedly fled but are being closely pursued by security teams in the area.

The incident mentions the growing desperation of terrorist elements in Bajaur, who, in the past, relied on local support and safe havens within villages to sustain their activities.

In this regard, local residents have also played a crucial role in diminishing terrorist networks by refusing to provide shelter or resources to militants, thereby strengthening counterterrorism efforts in the region. 

The Bajaur district, located along the sensitive Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier, has been a focal point of counterterrorism operations in recent years.

The successful interception near the border serves as another demonstration of the resolve and readiness of Pakistan’s security forces, who continue to maintain vigilance to prevent any resurgence of terrorist activity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and beyond.
