PESHAWAR: Security forces foiled an infiltration attempt by militants in Bajaur along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on Friday, officials said.
Security sources said the army captured a cross-border militant alive. The suspect, affiliated with the group Fitna al-Khawarij, identified himself as Abdullah. Authorities are interrogating him for further intelligence.
Officials said Pakistan’s forces remain fully alert against any aggression or infiltration and have tightened surveillance along border areas.
The operation, named Operation Ghazab Lil Haq, is part of Pakistan’s response to provocative actions from Afghanistan. Security sources said the campaign has so far killed 133 Taliban militants and wounded more than 200.
Pakistani forces destroyed 27 Taliban posts and captured nine positions. Officials said over 36 tanks were destroyed in counterstrikes, along with Taliban artillery guns and armored personnel carriers.
Several Taliban checkpoints and strongholds were abandoned as militants retreated under pressure from Pakistani forces.
Moreover, Pakistan captured five Afghan posts in Paktia province opposite South Waziristan and raised its national flag, security sources said.
The seized positions included two posts opposite Shawal, two opposite Angoor Adda, and one opposite Zarmalan.
