ABU DHABHI: The second Pakistani driver was killed in Dubai’s Al Barsha area late Saturday night after debris from an aerial interception fell onto a vehicle, according to a statement issued by the Dubai Media Office.
The incident occurred amid escalating regional tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
The latest fatality marks the second instance of a Pakistani national losing his life in the United Arab Emirates during the current regional conflict. The war has expanded across parts of the Middle East, with Iran reportedly targeting US military assets and bases in Gulf countries, while Israel has continued operations in Lebanon.
The conflict began on February 28 when the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on targets inside Iran. The UAE Ministry of Defence reported the death of an individual following the fall of debris after air defence systems intercepted missiles aimed at strategic locations in Abu Dhabi.
Zaman had been working in Abu Dhabi for nearly eight years. He was employed in labour work and also worked as a driver to support his family back home in Pakistan.
The death had drawn condolences from both local authorities and members of the expatriate community. Meanwhile, the UAE authorities expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased Pakistani national.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed its “sincere condolences and deepest sympathies” to the victim’s family and expressed full solidarity with them during their time of grief.
The ministry also reasserted the UAE’s firm stance against attacks targeting civilians.
“The targeting of civilians and civilian objects is unequivocally condemned and strictly prohibited under international law and humanitarian principles,” the statement said.
