GADANI: Local residents and fishermen have expressed serious concern after a strange phenomenon has been reported at Gadani Jetty, where the seawater has turned pink.
While commenting on the situation, the Balochistan Environmental Protection Department said that the color change in the water is due to pollution and biological activity. The department confirmed that the water had been stagnant for a long time, leading to biological changes that caused the unusual pink color and a strong foul smell in the area.
Talking to media persons, Deputy Director of Environment, Imran Kakar said that microscopic organisms in the water are likely responsible for the color change. He explained that such biological shifts happen when certain conditions, like pollution and warm stagnant water, support the rapid growth of these microorganisms.
Experts believe the phenomenon may be due to an algal bloom, a natural process where tiny plant-like organisms grow in large numbers, sometimes changing the color of the water.
