Security concerns forces school closure in several areas

GILGIT: In view of threats to public safety and order, schools have been announced closed in several areas.

Additional Chief Secretary Mushtaq Ahmed stated that all government and private educational institutions in Gilgit and Skardu will remain closed tomorrow.

All students, parents, and concerned staff are directed to follow the issued instructions.

Meanwhile, the district administration in Khyber has announced the indefinite closure of government schools in the border areas of Tehsil Landi Kotal.

According to the notification, the decision was made to ensure the safety of students and teachers, with further details on the resumption of educational activities to be announced later.

Due to the current situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, all schools in the border areas of North Waziristan have also been closed.

The decision aims to guarantee the protection of students and school staff.

Earlier, the Punjab government imposed Section 144 across the province for 7 days in response to potential terrorism threats and concerns over public peace.

The Punjab Home Department issued an immediate notification banning gatherings, processions, and demonstrations.

Officials stated that intelligence reports indicate sensitive gatherings could become targets for terrorism.

Authorities explained that precautionary measures were taken due to fears of sectarian tensions and disruptions to law and order.

A ban on public gatherings of 4 or more individuals has been imposed in Punjab.
