SANJAWI: A wheel-jam and shutter-down strike brought the town of Sanjawi in Balochistan to a standstill on Monday, as political groups and traders joined a province-wide protest demanding political change.
The strike followed a call by Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan Chairman Muhammad Khan Achakzai. Workers from the All Parties Alliance (APA) blocked major routes, including the Sanjawi-Quetta, Sanjawi-Harnai, Sanjawi-Daki and Sanjawi-Loralai highways, halting traffic across the region.
Shops and markets remained shuttered as the Traders Association backed the protest and urged residents to take part.
Supporters from several political parties, including the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Awami National Party (ANP) and Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), joined the strike. Party workers patrolled highways to enforce the shutdown.
Local authorities have not issued a statement on the disruption. However, the protest has paralyzed daily life in Sanjawi, with streets empty and transport suspended.
