Sanaullah dismisses speculations on new provinces, calls for dialogue on national Stability

LAHORE: The Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah Khan, has said that the federal government is “completely non-serious” about the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment and the creation of new provinces, terming such discussions mere speculation.

In this regard, his remarks came in response to mounting speculation about a possible revival of the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) following the formation of a special committee by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to review issues concerning the merged districts.

Furthermore, the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), a coalition partner of the ruling PML-N, on Friday formally proposed the creation of new provinces, arguing that further administrative divisions of the four provinces into three regions each North, South, and Central would increase governance and public service delivery.

In this sense, when asked about these proposals during a media interaction in Lahore, Sanaullah dismissed them, saying, “When there is no real news, such matters are floated. The government is not serious about these issues.”

So far, mentioning the PML-N’s stance on national challenges, the adviser recalled that party president Nawaz Sharif, in his address at Minar-e-Pakistan two years ago, had focused on that Pakistan’s crises could only be resolved through dialogue among all institutions.

Sanaullah underlined that all political parties must sit together and bring discussions on the Charter of Stability to their logical conclusion.

He also took a dig at former prime minister Imran Khan, stating that the PTI leader enjoys a “comfortable time in jail,” adding humorously that the government would have no objection if Khan were given air conditioners or meals from luxury hotels.
