BEIJING: Samsung has announced that its popular messaging app, Samsung Messages, will be officially discontinued in July 2026.
The company is advising all Samsung smartphone users to switch to Google Messages for a more consistent and improved messaging experience on Android devices.
Since all Samsung Galaxy phones run on Google’s Android operating system, Samsung is now prioritizing Google’s messaging platform.
Users are encouraged to download Google Messages from the Play Store if it is not already installed and set it as the default messaging app. Some users will also receive in-app notifications with guidance.
After July 2026, Samsung Messages will no longer be accessible on any devices, and users will have to fully rely on the alternative app.
According to Samsung, this move is part of a strategy to create a unified and better messaging system across Android devices by adopting Google’s platform as the standard.
