MOSCOW: The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a strong condemnation on Tuesday, calling recent U.S. threats of a potential military attack on Iran “absolutely unacceptable.” In an official statement, Moscow warned that such an action would have “disastrous consequences” for the Middle East and pose a significant threat to global security.
The statement cautioned the United States against using Iran’s internal instability as a pretext for launching an attack. It emphasized Russia’s rejection of attempts to “blackmail Iran’s foreign partners” through measures like increased trade tariffs, a clear reference to U.S. economic pressure tactics.
Addressing Iran’s recent domestic unrest, the ministry noted its assessment that the “artificially incited protests” are now subsiding. It expressed hope that the situation within the country would continue to stabilize gradually. The declaration underscores the deepening geopolitical rift, with Russia positioning itself as a firm diplomatic ally of Tehran against what it frames as aggressive and destabilizing U.S. posturing. The warning adds a major layer of international pressure as Washington evaluates its response to Iran’s internal and external policies.
Meanwhile US President Donald Trump has called for intensified protests in Iran and announced the cancellation of all meetings with Iranian officials. Trump made the announcement on his social media platform, Truth Social, writing: “Make Iran Great Again. I have canceled all meetings with Iranian officials.” He directly addressed protesters, stating, “help is on the way,” and urged them to “take control of the institutions.”
The move comes as the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the establishment of a new Air and Missile Defense Cell at the Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar. The newly inaugurated Joint Defense Operations Cell for the Middle East is designed to strengthen regional military coordination and significantly improve air and missile defense capabilities among US allies.
