A roof collapse causes deaths of six people

CHARSADDA: A fatal accident in Charsadda causes deaths of six people.

According to the Rescue officials, a roof of a house collapsed killing six people including children.

The incident took place in a house of a local person where a wedding ceremony was held.

According to the sources, the building of the house was too old which caused the roof to collapse.

The horrible incident brought tears to every eye in the entire area.

The dead bodies were shifted to the hospital.

Roof collapses continue to be a tragic and recurring issue in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially in rural areas where many homes are built with mud bricks or weak materials that deteriorate over time.

These incidents are commonly triggered by heavy monsoon rains, strong winds, landslides, or sudden structural failure, often occurring at night when families are asleep and resulting in devastating losses, particularly among children.

In September 2024, five members of a family, a couple and their three children lost their lives in Tarangzai, Charsadda, when their house roof collapsed amid heavy rain and windstorms.

In January 2023, six people including five children died in a sudden roof cave-in at a house in Khar, Bajaur.

A particularly heartbreaking case occurred in December 2023 in Abbottabad, where a woman and her eight children perished after a mud house roof collapsed following a fire caused by a short circuit.

Earlier incidents include the 2020 tragedy in Bajaur’s Mamond tehsil that claimed seven children, and an August 2008 event in Charsadda’s Sher Payan area where heavy rainfall led to a roof collapse killing eight family members.

Such events underscore the persistent vulnerabilities in housing construction across the region, worsened by extreme weather conditions.

While authorities typically respond with rescue operations and financial compensation for affected families, the need for improved building standards and safer housing remains a critical concern.
