Rising tensions reported between Noor Wali faction

MOHMAND: The reliable sources have confirmed emerging rifts between the Noor Wali faction of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA).

In this regard, the mistrust has been growing as Jamaat-ul-Ahrar has accused Noor Wali’s faction of leaking sensitive information regarding its tashkeel (organizational unit) that was reportedly moving from Afghanistan into Pakistan, specifically in the Mohmand tribal region.

The security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that such internal fractures, while reflective of rivalries within militant outfits, could also trigger violent clashes.

Furthermore, the TTP umbrella has historically been marred by rivalries and breakaways, with Jamaat-ul-Ahrar previously distancing itself from the TTP leadership before rejoining at different points.

So far, the Mohmand district, lying along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, has historically been a hotspot for militant infiltration. The security operations have reduced large-scale violence, but concerns persist over cross-border movements and the regrouping of banned outfits.

Moreover, the experts suggest that the unfolding rift may reflect deeper issues of trust and survival among extremist factions, especially in the context of shifting regional dynamics.
