Rind defends anti-terrorism law, announces effective measures against extremism

QUETTA: Shahid Rind, the spokesperson of the Balchistan Government has said that the Balochistan government has amended the Anti-Terrorism Act, granting broader powers to security agencies to combat rising insurgency and safeguard national security.

Rind clarified that it was a necessary step given to counter terrorism efforts of the terrorists in the province.

He said that the changes were made during a formal session of the Provincial Assembly, where both ruling and opposition parties were present. No objections were raised at the time and it also reflecting consensus on national security priorities.

Rind further said that the fight against terrorism demands extraordinary legal tools. This is about protecting our citizens and restoring public confidence in law enforcement institutions.

He emphasized that the amendments are also aimed at addressing the persistent issue of missing persons in Balochistan. He questioned the sincerity of political parties now opposing the law, asking why they failed to introduce solutions during their own time in power.

Regarding the security situation in some district of Balochistan, Rind admitted that the law and order situation remains challenging. However, he assured that security agencies are reassessing operational protocols to improve public safety.
