Rifts in PPP Balochistan temporary, says Senator Umar Gorgaij

QUETTA: Amid recent internal rifts within the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Balochistan, hopes have emerged for reconciliation among its provincial leaders.

PPP Balochistan President and Senator Sardar Umar Gorgaij said the party functions like a family, and such differences are “temporary” and will be resolved soon.

He said he is personally working to address grievances among party leaders, stressing that unity is essential to address the people’s problems effectively.

Expressing confidence in Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, Gorgaij said the chief minister is performing his duties responsibly and will continue to lead the province.

The senator dismissed claims that the party’s internal rifts had reached a critical stage. He acknowledged that some issues had arisen between Chief Minister Bugti, Ali Hassan Zehri, and Ali Madad Jatak but said personal allegations were unhelpful. “If anyone has evidence, they should present it. Otherwise, matters should be settled through dialogue,” he added.

Gorgaij clarified that the party had no plans to issue show-cause notices to any leader and that all disputes would be resolved through understanding. He said both Zehri and Jatak had valid points but emphasized that the collective interests of the party must come first.

He also expressed optimism that differences between Chief Minister Bugti and Liaquat Lehri would soon be resolved, noting that no issue within the PPP was beyond discussion.

In recent months, PPP provincial minister Mir Ali Hassan Zehri and parliamentary secretary Mir Liaquat Lehri have publicly criticized the chief minister. Zehri accused Bugti’s policies of “sinking the PPP ship,” while Lehri questioned the government’s performance in the provincial assembly, citing unemployment and economic decline.

Political analysts say the PPP-led coalition government in Balochistan has shown signs of internal discord just 18 months after taking office. However, Senator Gorgaij’s remarks signal renewed efforts within the party to restore unity and strengthen confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti.
