Relentless monsoon rains leave 202 dead, hundreds injured across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Saturday has confirmed that at least 202 people including 96 children have lost their lives across country since the start of the monsoon season in late June.

According to the NDMA data, Punjab has suffered the highest number of fatalities, accounting for 123 deaths. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 40 deaths, Sindh 21, Balochistan 16, while Islamabad and Azad Jammu and Kashmir each recorded one death.

The causes of death varied significantly, with at least 118 people killed in house collapses, 30 in flash floods, and others due to drowning, lightning strikes, electrocution, and landslides.

Additionally, the heavy rains have left more than 560 people injured, including 182 children.
