RAWALPINDI: The authorities have placed Rawalpindi and Islamabad on high security alert amid expectations of a second round of talks between the United States and Iran, with extensive arrangements underway to ensure the safety of visiting delegations.
In this regard, more than 10,000 personnel of Rawalpindi Police have been deployed across the city. So far, over 600 special pickets have been established to monitor entry and exit points, while additional security personnel have been stationed along major highways.
The deployment also includes 400 elite commandos, among them 100 trained sharpshooters, supported by 4,000 personnel of the Punjab Highway Patrol and 200 members of the Dolphin Force.
The security measures began late on April 18, as foreign delegations are expected to arrive at Nur Khan Airbase in Chaklala before proceeding to Islamabad.
The multi-layered security system has been put in place, including rooftop snipers maintaining coordination with ground forces through wireless communication.
In this sense, the Quick Response Unit teams remain on active patrol, and a strict checking system has been implemented across the region. Surveillance is being maintained through Safe City cameras, with real-time monitoring from control rooms.
Meanwhile, advance security teams from both the United States and Iran are expected to arrive to coordinate arrangements with local authorities.
Moreover, in Islamabad, additional measures include temporary closure of hostels, hotels, and guest houses, with authorities warning of legal action in case of non-compliance. The possibility of vacating seminaries near high-security zones is also under consideration.
So far, officials indicated that further reinforcements, including personnel from Punjab Police, Federal Constabulary, and Rangers, may be deployed if required, underlining the importance of maintaining a secure environment for the anticipated diplomatic engagement.
